Looking at buying a Golf R 8.5, they seem quite keen to sell them, I'm getting quoted some details well below retail, I like the Blue what are the thoughts out there, apparently prices are going up on the 1st of May

Hi - I have one but in black. She arrived end of March and she's my dream car.
Wicked fun to drive, no where near as thirsty on the gas as I expected but I have set up my individual driver profile.
Took her out for a photoshoot the other day so I guess I should post in the MK8 section.

Cool, I've been away from here for a number of years driving all sorts, but I've always loved VW Golfs had quite a few, been doing a lot of driving around NZ lately and realised I need to be in a Golf R, they are made for NZ roads with that 4 wheel drive system, torque and power. I've been driving a 2024 Toyota CHR GR 2.0 sport hybrid and as nice and economical as they are 4.9l/100 and the 4WD is great 200hp doesn't do it for me, so moving on.Did you get the prepaid service package? Thinking about getting the 3 year one for $1645. We are in Taranaki so some great roads to have some fun :)

LOL - you sound like me!  I've been driving a Kia Niro hybrid and yes, 4.4l/100 is nice on the wallet, there's not a lot of fun in it.
I bought her down to New Plymouth the other weekend, when the weather was really nice. The roads will be a lot nicer to drive once they finish fixing all the freaking pot holes!
Took her down to Taupo last week - that was bloody nice.

And yes to the service plan. I got her durasealed to start as well - interior and exterior but am going to add a ceramic coat to the paint and the wheels. The amount of brake dust with those 360mm's is crazy!

Funny that, it might be a hybrid effect, economy is boring lol, I know they use 98 octane we have NPD here with 100 octane was just researching that hoping its not carrot juice or something weird to keep the greenies happy :)
I spoke the VW dealer this morning firming up my order as I have get it before 1st May to get the deal. Going with the 3 year plan with option to 5 year but I change my cars more than my underpants lol kidding. Yeah that paint protection is worth while I think I'll get just the outside, I don't have grubby kids or dogs so should be ok just have look for friends with no legs to fit in the back I like my seat right back like a fat German lol kidding about the fat bit. I did 25k in the CHR in 10 months so I'm a a milage guy, and yeah the freakin pot holes and bloody orange cones get on my nerves I think they are bloody breeding!

OMG dude - as soon as you get your car we are going on a cruise!!
I'm a short ass so back seat passengers are kinda okay but they still be tilting their knees to the side.

Have they ordered a specific config - or do you get to choose Black Edition +/- Touring Pack?

You're going to love it going from a hyrid. Even without manual, its fun AF.

Lol love road trips, just drive the SI down the east back up the west 4600k roadie, drive to Akl too much (boring), drive to far north Cape Regana, Cooks Beach a good drive, Matakana have friends there another good drive, like the back roads.
Nah I ordered the blue ex-stock Auckland 5 months to get a special order delivery can't wait that long, I could be dead by then  ;)
Took the 5 year service program especially looking at inflation and paint finish.
Asked for delivery mid May so just have watch Carwow videos in the meantime and have cold showers :)  8)

knowning you and how you drive? You will find far more enjoyment in the Ed45 mk8.5 than the mk8.5R.

In saying that, it would be worthwile taking a look at the Cupra Leon Sports tourer VZ or if you need more room? Ateca or Formentor.
Don't have the haptic buttons thru the car and generally a much nicer place to be in daily.
