I've lost my car key but was able to get into my car via taking the key cap thing off the door handle and using my spare key that doesn't work with my car to open it.

After the alarm went off I was able to press the start button. I tried to assign my spare key to the car but had no luck. The spare key has been like that since I got the car two years ago.

Is there anything I can do to have the car accept this key until I hopefully find my main key? I have obdeleven if that helps.

Where can I get a new key from? VW was quoting me over a $1000 for a new key and to be programmed to my car.

thats not unreasonable.

new key for those are around $650-850.
These require ODIS to code the car key. When no other keys are present.

But I have come across software that may do this, but $1500 for the tool and license and another $500 for 3-4 cables as a maybe. Is lots of money on a maybe really.

OBDEleven will not be able to code the car as this immobilizer system is KESSY, meaning online only.

I might just get my insurance to pay for a new key because heaven forbid if I lost my one and only key. I just can't understand why it costs so much.

Yeah, its a straight forward rip off.   

You should look up a few forums, because I'm sure I can recode the Audi, without taking it to the dealer ...

Unfortunately, Kessy is online only, there are places that can "clone" keys. However, need a fully working key for this.
I've literally spent the last few weeks down this rabbit hole.

Tried SPVG, VagTacho, Vag Commander, Vag +K Commander, VCP. In short I got another tool, not yet tested. So unable to confirm at this stage.
Most are genuine tools too, so lots of money went into finding a working solution for same reason above.

The only key I have is a fully working key so what places can clone it?
