Hello,

I have a 2014 v6 tdi touareg with the Aisin 8 Speed Auto gearbox. It's a lovely car, done 200k kms but has great dealer service history and is in excellent shape cosmetically and engine works smoothly.

However I've had some issues with the gearbox, I've never had any fault codes or anything like that but I've felt that it isn't as smooth as it should be, my previous 2012 touareg v6 tdi felt smoother, although that one didn't have the optional "sports auto gearbox with paddleshifters". I wonder if there's a difference in gearbox tunes between the two, particularly with my current car being facelift.

Anyway, the issue I'm having is that at slow speeds, light loads, particularly when driving in traffic (stop and go or slow moving) or town in general, if it is slowly accelerating towards the point where it needs to upshift, but I let off the throttle just before it wants to shift or reduce the engine load significantly before the shift, the subsequent gear change is quite rough, almost like it got confused and didn't realise I've let off. This is quite frustrating as it makes the car feel very clunky. Also downshifting into 2nd feels a little clunky as well, it feels like it holds onto third gear too long, when slowing down, then you want to go again, and all of a sudden it tries to jump down into second, not particularly smooth. Additionally it can feel a bit clunky letting off/getting back on the throttle. IE driving along in say 2nd gear, let off throttle car jerks slightly, getting back on throttle, car jerks slightly as engine is connected back up to the wheels.

I suspected a valvebody issue, so I have replaced the valvebody with a remanufactured unit and it seems ti be improved however still not as smooth as it should be. It almost feels more like a TCU tune issue, as the car is capable of shifting smoothly.

Also I have noted an occasional slightly clunk in the drivetrain somewhere when I release the brake and roll forward and then stop again.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has had similar experiences with the Aisin 8 speed and what they did to fix it.

Is there any software updates available? Anyone on here able to perform an update to cayenne software potentially using VCdS?

I come from the bmw world, and have never experienced this sort of shifting with any of the zf auto boxes.

Cheers, Elias
