If it's a DSG transmission, check for at least 1 DSG service carried out and on test drive make sure there's no strange noises from the trans when selecting gears, especially shifting from D to P or from R to P. Might be more to check, but this would be key.

Perhaps carbon build up? Might pay to check / do a carbon clean. My 2.0T is also due for one now.

A4 - S4 - RS 4 - A5 - S5 - RS 5 / 2014 A4 Allroad tickover issue
Last post by WestWing - September 11, 2024, 04:59:05 PM
Hello,

My 2014 A4 Allroad has developed an issue whereby it will 'occasionally' get very lumpy at a stop with the engine running. It happened a month ago for a week or so, was good for weeks and today, its back. It like its dropping a cylinder at tickover and misfires. Its fine again when we move off. Sometimes, it ticks over nicely ...

Car has covered 130k and has just had a service replacing all spark plugs, air filter and a sensor on the top of the engine at the rear bulkhead.

My mechanic says that no codes are registered.  He has swapped coils around and has experienced the misfire himself.

Any ideas please?

1985 NZ assembled Toyota Corolla GT (AE82), Chris Amon was a genius to build the world's best handling Corolla with limited resources.
At the time it was good enough to see off all Euro hot hatches.

1995 NZ Honda Prelude VTi-R, my first taste of VTEC goodness,
Although The Fear of Europe never materialised, this Prelude was a supremely capable, relaxing, long distance tourer.

Imgur still works OK despite the new layout, today I found an option to revert to the easier to use old site.

Looking at buying a 2012 RS5 with just over 100,000 kays on the clock. No modifications apart from muffler and paint. Regularly serviced, dealer purchase. Anything to be aware of at that age and mileage?

Here is another fun car from even earlier.
This had a somewhat chequered background as it started life as a early, rear coil spring suspended, Lotus Cortina which was raced and crashed.
The 'good' bits were removed and built into another shell and this one rebuilt with a push rod engine.
The body was stiffer than a standard Cortina of the day, due to the tubular reinforcing in the body used in the early Lotus Cortinas, and seemed to handle quite nicely.
After a while I was able to reinstate most of the 'good' bits apart from the twin cam but when I eventually obtained one of those, it came with the Elan 'attached'
You will note the right front tyre is loaded up a bit as I was pushing it when the photo was taken.....I was doing 70mph and the corner was sign posted as 35
