I see you're new here Pioneer788. In case you didn't know Vert80 means he can do the job for you (correct me if I'm wrong John) and his workshop is in Henderson Valley.
Check out some of his build projects to see the quality of his workmanship.
You can private message him if need be.

Whoa, nearly $7k for front shocks is wild — you're right to be shopping around. That quote definitely sounds like OEM pricing, and while Audi parts can be pricey, there are better options out there.

A few things to consider:

Aftermarket Options: Brands like Bilstein, Koni, and Sachs are solid alternatives. If you've got the sport suspension setup (e.g. S-Line or adaptive dampers), you'll need to make sure the replacements are compatible with the electronic dampening system — that's probably the "doo dacky" you're referring to! 😉

Bilstein B4 or B6 (for standard or sport setups) are well-reviewed, and the B8 series is made for lowered cars. Some of these do support electronic dampers, but always double-check with the supplier.

MSS Kits are also worth looking into — especially if you're wanting to retain comfort but still have a sporty setup.

Forum Wisdom: Some people on here have switched to coilovers like KW or ST, but keep in mind that you might lose the factory electronic adjustability unless you go for kits that integrate with the OEM system (KW DDC is one, but not cheap either).

I'd recommend giving FCP Euro or ECS Tuning a browse — even with shipping and GST, it's often way cheaper than NZ dealer pricing. Local shops like Shock Shop NZ might also have suggestions and can install and code them if needed.

Hope that helps and keen to hear what others have gone with!

Cheers!

Mk7 Golf - Jetta / Re: Golf 7.5 R-Line Variant

The plan was to get the Golf R mirrior caps and then cut the holes in them for the Passat blind spot lights but while surfing Aliexpress I came across a seller that offered plain caps or ones with holes already done, much easier option of course and as it turns out they were a perfect fit.
Installed the dynamic indicators and then tapped in the blind spot lights to the factory wires going to the mirror glass.
Quick test confirms everything is working as it should, they look like a decent enough quality so hopefully they last a while.

Next on the list are the R-Line door entry lights, these were more trouble than they were worth, the front is easy enough to do but since I have a 4 door car I wanted them in the rear as well which wasn't that straight forward.
Front doors have a control unit that controls the functions of the door so you just wire them in to that and code them to work with VCDS, pretty easy as it is all designed to work that way from factory.
The rear doors however do not have a control unit but essentially you just take a power feed from the window regulator motor and a switched ground from the door lock itself, problem with that is there is residual voltage of about 3V when the circuit is broken meaning the LEDs in the light always stay very dimly lit. This will not do.
Read online about using a resistor across the + and - connection to "soak" up that residual voltage which does work but I didn't like that idea.
More investigation required.
